Part 1:

The Default LAN IP Address, Username & Password:

When you purchase a new Mettle SE it comes with default IP address of 192.168.1.1 on its LAN interface which is referred internally by MettleOpS as 'em0 or 'rl0' (in most cases); it is the first gigabit Ethernet port which will be usually marked externally as 'NIC 1'.

To gain access to Mettle SE for further configuration you should connect a PC to Mettle SE's LAN interface. If you directly connect to the interface please use a crossover cable. Now you have to change the IP address of Ethernet interface of your PC to an IP address that is on the same Network as Mettle SE.

For example: Mettle SE's default IP address is 192.168.1.1, so to gain access to Mettle SE you should change the IP address of your PC to an IP address like 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 etc.

To access Web Configurator of Mettle SE open a web browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer and type https://192.168.1.1 in web browser's address bar and press Enter. This will take you to Mettle SE login screen.

The default Username of a Mettle SE is "admin" and the default Password is unique to each Mettle SE. If you enter the Username and Password correctly it will take you to Web Configurator.

Part 2:

To Change Default IP Address:

Default IP address of 192.168.1.1 is configured on the LAN interface (em0/Nic1) of Mettle SE. To change this IP address go to Interfaces --> LAN and enter a new IP address and subnet mask. Click on 'Save' and 'Apply Changes' to make changes permanent.

IMPORTANT: Once you change the LAN IP address of Mettle SE from it's default 192.168.1.1, to a new range that you wish to use in your LAN, you will not be able to access the Web Configurator from your PC any more. To gain access to the Web Configurator once again you have to change the IP address of your host machine to an address in the same range as that of the LAN interface of Mettle SE.

Part 3:

To Change Default Username and Password:

To change the Web Configurator's default Username and Password follow the steps below:

1) Go to System --> General
2) In the field marked as "Username" enter the username you wish to use
3) In the field marked as "Password" give a new password you wish to use Confirm the password by typing it in the  confirmation text box..
4) Scroll down and click on "Save" button.

Next time when you have to log into Mettle SE using the new username and correct password. Please keep the new username safe. Please note that the ssh username will still remain as 'root' but the password will be the new password you gave.
